Nepean

 
Nepean is a fully developed established diversified community located west of Ottawa's inner core. The Ottawa River borders Nepean on the north.
Nepean is primarily a residential community with a mix of housing types: high rise apartments, detached and semi-detached dwellings, townhouses and row houses. Commercial areas are in clusters throughout the community and along Merivale Road, Hunt Club Road and Carling Avenue. Light industrial uses and high-rise office towers are also located in the community, primarily along Carling Avenue.
The Queensway freeway traverses east-west through the community transporting persons and goods to Ottawa’s core and points west. In addition to the Queensway, major streets are: Merivale/Clyde/Maitland, Prince of Wales, Greenbank/Pinecrest, Woodroffe, Meadowlands, Hunt Club, Base Line, Carling, Richmond Road, Kirkwood, Holland, Scott, Queen Elizabeth Driveway, Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway along the river, Island Park Drive, which leads to the Champlain bridge that crosses into Quebec by the National War Museum.
Algonquin College is located in central Nepean. The community has 20 English public elementary and middle schools, one French public elementary school, 14 English Catholic schools, six English high schools, one French public high school, two English Catholic high schools and one French Catholic high school.
Nepean has many parks, the major ones being Britannia beach and park fronting on the river and Walter Hayden Park, which also fronts on the river. There is also parkland along the river that is owned by the National Capital Commission. A major bicycle/walking trail traverses from east to west along the river eventually ending at the Parliament buildings. Agriculture Canada’s 1,000-acre experimental farm is located in the heart of the community. The Rideau Canal and Dow’s Lake form the eastern boundary of Nepean where there is a park along the canal and lake traversed by the Queen Elizabeth Driveway.
The Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital and the Royal Ottawa Hospital are located in Nepean.
